In my last post, I mentioned that I had gotten a new sewing machine for Christmas – the Husqvarna Epic Quilt 97 – and I have been giving her a workout, making a quilt for the hubster for his barn. It seemed fitting that the first thing I made on the machine he bought me was for him, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a fabulous machine, sews a perfect 1/4″ seam, so important for us quilters, and has a lovely large workspace along with all the usual bells and whistles I’m accustomed to……auto needle threader, locking stitches, thread cutter, large display (much more reliant on that as my eyes get older) and the projector is great for sewing half square triangles.

I made him a Carpenters Star quilt, well I’ve only pieced the top so far. I have yet to pick some backing fabric for it, so until I do, it can be packed away in the ‘Bag of Shame’ with all the other flimsies waiting for their time to be quilted – but now I have this new machine, I’m sure a lot of them will get pulled out and finished off now.

I really enjoyed sitting quietly and piecing this top, it reminded me why I love quilting. I’ve spent so long making toys, bags and embroidered quilts, that I’d forgotten the simple art of piecing shapes together and building a quilt block.

I’m currently ill with a bad chest and an asthma flare up, but as soon as I have some strength back to get out to my sewing room, I will be finishing my grandsons embroidery quilt and working on some designs for my bag making class in October at the Keep On Sewing Retreat

I hope you’re all keeping well and I will be back with more news shortly xx
